In 1974 Rupert Jasen Smith (New Jersey 1953 – North Ridge 1989) met Andy Warhol and helped him with his hand-painted Flower editions. This became a close relationship of more than 15 years. Rupert Jasen Smith was appointed master printer and art director of Andy Warhol in 1977, immediately after his training, at the age of just 24. Warhol was so pleased with the work of his new master printer that he allowed Smith to mark his mark (a blindstamp) in addition to the signature “Andy Warhol”. As well as being Andy Warhol’s printer and an important contributor to Warhol in his later years, Rupert Jasen Smith was himself an admirable artist.
